KIYG: Thang-Ta athletes continue gold rush, Rahul wins cycling gold, Victor takes bronze in wrestling

Manipur's dominance in Thang-Ta continued as the state U-18 girls ended their campaign with six medals to become team champions while the boys' team collected four more gold medals coupled with a silver on the third day of the 4th Khelo India Youth Games on Monday.
The day's girls' competition saw Chandani Sunar, Longjam Sophiya Chanu and Konjengbam Thaja Chanu all prevail in their respective final bouts as Kolom Merina Devi came off second best in her category.
Chandani Sunar bested Monali of Assam to win the U-18 girls' Thanglon & Khonglon-Khuton while Longjam Sophiya Chanu (Thang-Haiba) outperformed her closest challenger Urmila Sharma of Assam in their final contest and Konjengbam Thaja Chanu (-52 kg Phunaba Anishuba) got the better of Sairah Zahoor of Jammu & Kashmir to walk away with her yellow metal.
On the other hand, Kolom Merina Devi (-56kg Phunaba Anishuba) faltered at the final hurdle to settle for the silver medal.
The girls' team, in all, collected five gold and one silver medals to emerge as the team champions.
Meanwhile, Manipur continued their dominant run in the U-18 boys' Thang-Ta group by winning four out of six gold medals on offer on the third day.
Laipubam Bishal Sharma secured his second gold medal after winning the -56kg Phunaba Ama event and Moirangthem Arbin Meitei achieved the same feat by claiming the gold medal in the -60kg Phunaba Ama.
Meanwhile, Dijen Shagolshem grabbed the Thang-Haiba gold medal and Mutum Thoisana Singh came on top in the -56kg Phunaba Anishuba contest.
Abujam Lanchenba took the silver medal in the Thanglon & Khonglon-Khuton.
In cycling, Kh Rahul Singh pulled off a stellar performance in the boys' sprint event to win the gold medal, clocking 00:10.852 sec.
In wrestling, Yendrembam Victor Singh lost out in the 65kg Greco roman style event to take the bronze medal.
Manipur have now bagged 14 medals (10 gold, 3 silver & 1 bronze) to stay third in the medal tally behind Haryana (first) and Maharashtra (second) .
