Sericulture awareness programme held

Imphal, March 13 2013:
A one-day sericulture awareness programme was held today at Churachandpur district with an aim to provide proper knowledge to the farmers and create awareness on rearing cocoons.
Industries Minister Govindas Konthoujam, who graced the function as Chief Guest, assured that the government would give special attention for development of sericulture projects in the state and government will buy cocoons from the farmer if they like to sell them.
He observed that the farmers are playing an important role in shaping the economy of the state and it is necessary for the government to uplift the status of the farmers and work for their welfare for a better economy in the state.
He appealed to the farmers to be sincere in their works for the successful implementation of the projects.
He also noted that Tasar plants are found abundantly in the hills of Manipur.
So, Sericulure project in Ukhrul district has become a success and the government is looking forward to set up similar project in other hill districts of the state.
Principal Secretary of Sericulture and Commerce & Industries O Nabakishore presided over the function which was also attended by Deputy Commissioner of Churachandpur district Jacintha Lazarus and Sericulture Director H Ginjamang Simte as Guests of Honour.
