285 years of Puya Mei Thaba to be observed

Imphal, January 09 2014:
A joint organization of the International Observation Committee on Puya Mei Thaba (ICOP), Meitei National Front (MNF), Kangleipak, Manipur State Shumang Leela Council, All Manipur Recognised Private School Welfare Association and Hanjing Marjingkol Pakhangba Laisna Kanba Lup will observe 285 years of Puya Mei Thaba (burning of ancient books) from January 22 till 24 of the month at Hanjing Meekollok, Heingang in Imphal West, said Hamom Dhani Meitei, convenor of ICOP in a press meet held at PANDAM office located at Waheng Leikai, Imphal.
As part of the observation, leaders who have played front runners in uniting the people of the hills and the valley will be presented with "Maichou Ningshing Mana" and "Chingmee Tammee Ningshing Mana" which is being given every year as tradition.
A play called "Kangleipak-ta 1709 (Puya Mei Thaba)", played by the Manipur Shumang Leela Council will also be showcased, said Dhani Meitei.
He also said that the initiative of distributing black badges at schools and institution for the year will commence from February 22 next month which is a joint initiative of MSSLC, AMRPSWA, ICOP, MNF and Hanjing Manrjingkol Pakhangba Laisana Kanba Lup (Hampak Laikallup).
In order for the observation to be carried out successfully, the organisers have appealed to various bodies and organizations of the state not to impose any kinds of bandhs or general strikes.
