Imphal, January 09 2014:
Of the three matches played on the fifth day of the 1st U-14 Hrojit Memorial Gold Cup Memorial Hockey Tournament, played at the hockey field of Khuman Lampak today, two matches were totally one sided, with PHAM Yaiskul whitewashing a hapless KHSC Khongman, sounding the board five times and conceding none, while in the second match, HAYT Kshetri Leikai blanking YC Lairikyengbam Leikai by 11 goals to nil, highlighting the deep disparities in terms of skills between the different terms.
The one exception was the match between AJSA Jiribam and SEYO Khetri Leikai, with the former edging the latter by an odd goal in three.
The tournament is being organised by Hockey Manipur.
In the first match, it was PHAM, Yaiskul all the way, dominating in all departments of the game leaving their opponents staring at an embarrassing result of 0-5 .
PHAM, Yaiskul went ahead as early as the 12th minute of the game, when K Keke Sharma converted a neat penalty corner.
The early goal only added more punch to the attack of PHAM and their relentless raids at the citadel of the team from Khongman resulted in an own goal in the 31st minute when a defender deflected the ball into his own net.
Dominating the mid field and dictating terms at will, N Bungbi added one more goal in the 37th minute, followed by Kh Viko in the 41st minute and Y Manish in 43rd minute to complete the rout.
HAYT Khetri Leikai white wash YC Lairikyengbam Leikai : The second match of the day followed the pattern of the first match, with HAYT Kshetru Leikai sounding the board 11 times while their opponent, YC Lairikyengbam Leikai could only watch on helplessly.
The floodgates opened as early as the 7th minute of the match when Ksh Tabalray broke through the weak defence of the team from Lairikyengbam Leikai to score the first goal.
Ksh Boris then stepped in and pumped in six goals in the 9th, 12th, 18th, 27th, 28th and 40th minutes of the game.
In between the first and sixth goal, Kh Tabalray added two more goals in the 30th and 37th minutes of the game.
Th Welson chipped in with one goal in the 19th minute and Ksh Gurse founded the board in 31st minute of the game.
So dominating were the team from Kshetri Leikai, that they did not give their opponents any opportunity to have a look at their goal.
Better skills, deft stick work, better team co-ordination marked their play, leaving the other team in complete disarray.
The exception to the matches played today was the third one between AJSA, Jiribam and SEYO Kshetri Leikai.
Both teams started off well, but it was the team from Kshetri Leikai who took the lead as early as the 6th minute of the match, when Bidyananda converted a well taken penalty corner.
Stung by the early goal, the team from Jiribam went on the offensive and unleased a series of attacks.
The attacking play paid dividends in the 14th minute, when Karannganba sounded the board.
AJSA Jiribam did not rest on the equaliser and went all out to find the winning goal and repeatedly raided the rival territory.
The winning goal finally came in the 28th minute through Ch Victor.
Tomorrow, HU Lairikyengbam Leikai will take on KHSC Khongman while PHAM Yaiskul meet CDO, Charangpat.
