Imphal, January 09 2014:
The long standing imbroglio over abnormal population growth in Mao-Maram, Purul and Paomata sub-divisions of Senapati district has been finally resolved.
Talking to media persons this afternoon, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Francis Ngajokpa said that the controversy surrounding population figures of the three sub-divisions has been cleared by the Director General of Census and the corrected population figures have been uploaded on relevant websites.
According to the 2011 Census report, total population of the three sub-divisions was 2,85,404 .
Population distribution pattern was 1,63,380 in Mao-Maram, 68,123 in Purul and 53,901 in Paomata, said the Minister.
On account of the controversy surrounding population figures of the three sub-divisions, census reports of 2001 and 2011 were published in provisional form.
The matter even reached the Court.
Even as the Census report was revised, the revised figures were rejected on the ground that they indicated abnormal growth rate.
Then physical verification was done lasting for two/three years.
Later, the State Government led by Chief Minister O Ibobi urged the Union Home Minister to rectify the errors
detected in the census report as soon as possible for no development programmes could be implemented in the three sub-divisions in the absence of census data.
During the meeting with the Chief Minister, the Union Home Minister assured that he would give necessary instructions to officials of the Director General of Census.
Even as the Union Home Minister gave due instruction, the Director General of Census was abroad at that time.
"Later I went to Delhi and called on the Director General of Census.
I appealed to collect census data of the three sub-divisions anew", Francis Ngajokpa conveyed.
In response, officials of the Director General of India came to the three sub-divisions in two phases and collected census data anew.
The latest report of the fresh census data has been approved and census report of the three sub-divisions has been uploaded on the website of the Census of India.
Population figures of the three sub-divisions now figure in the 2011 Census Report, informed Francis Ngajokpa.
