Taloulong village chief Kilkhong who fought against British rulers during British occupation of Manipur was remembered today on the first anniversary of installing his statue.
The function organised by Sitlhou Youth Organisation and Sitlhou Council was graced by IFCD Minister Ngamthang Haokip.
Speaking at the occasion, Ngamthang Haokip said that Kilkhong was a key leader of the Kuki rebellion (1917-1919) which was raised against imposition of British rule over Manipur.
The war was guided by a conviction that Manipur's territorial integrity should be kept intact and its administration should be done by native people of the kingdom, not foreigners.
Emulating the footsteps of a brave leader like Kilkhong would not only help in bringing unity among the indigenous communities of Manipur but also bring about speedy development.
Addressing the gathering Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Francis Ngajokpa said that tribals need not lose heart because they are backward rather they should work harder at be at par with other communities.
He called upon the gathering to implement NREGS properly instead of drawing money without doing any works.
Appealing to all village chiefs to ensure each and every one get their share of NREGS wages, Francis Ngajokpa asked all hill people to extend full support in the execution of PMGSY works which are mainly aimed at improving connectivity.
