ASUM Sports Meet kicks off

The 32nd annual sports meeting of Aimol Students' Union, Manipur (ASUM) kicked off from today under theme "Unity and Patience" at Aimol Ngairong Village
in Chandel District.
The inaugural function of the sports meet was attended by D.Korungthang, MLA of 42-Tengnoupal A/C as Chief Guest; S.Munthuijir Aimol, Executive Engineer of Manipur Development Society as Guest of Honour and Ch.
Bumneilal, Election Officer of ASUM as functional President.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Korungthang said that Manipur is a State where there is lot of potential in sports and if the youths were trained properly they will bring more laurels to the state.
He further said that now-a-days sports can be taken up as a profession as it does not only provides money and jobs but also brings fame.
Moreover, the Government provides many facilities for the welfare of the sports persons including job reservation, incentives, etc.
So, we should encourage our youths in the field of sports and to take it up as a profession.
The MLA also assured to construct a sports complex for the Aimol Tribe in the near future.
The annual sports meet of ASUM, which would continue till Saturday, is being participated by 15 teams including a team from Aimol Students Union Delhi and greater Imphal and they would be competing in Boys and girls Football, volley ball, field and track events, sepaktakraw (boys only) .
On the first day of the sports meet, an exhibition football match was played between 20 Assam Rifles and Aimol Local Club in which 20 AR emerges winner in a tie breaker following the score of both the teams remaining at 1-1 .
