Imphal, January 09 2014:
The Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) Ukhrul has expressed concern over the low voltage of power supply and frequent outages of power in Ukhrul district.
A statement issued by the general secretary of TNL, K Dickson pointed out that thousands of Govt employees and honest common men of the district are regularly paying power bills although they receive power much lesser than what they pay.
It highlighted that a meagre 150 volt to 160 voltage of power during day time and 120v-140v at night are supplied to the people of the district.
As such, electrical appliances like TV, refrigerators, computers, etc have become just display items as they are not functional with such low voltage of power.
Hundreds of home-based small scale industries that require 220 voltage of power are paralysed affecting the economy of the common people, TNL highlighted while adding that the low voltage plight is further compounded with frequent outages, which result in heavy financial loss as the people are compelled to opt for candles and other means to light up the households.
This also result in damaging of countless electrical gadgets worth crores.
"The people of the district are of the opinion that the authorities have turned a deaf ear to their plight in this regard or the Govt consider the people of Ukhrul as second class citizens," said the TNL.
