Covid wave continues amid sluggish testing rate
Three fatalities, 322 new positive cases reported; recovery rate 95.52 pc

Imphal, February 02 2022: Amid the surging third wave of Covid-19 pandemic, the test rate remains sluggish in the state with the daily test capacity hovering around 2000 on average.

On Wednesday, government bulletins reported 322 new cases of Covid-19 out of 2116 samples tested in the last 24 hours, registering a daily positivity rate of l5.22 percent against 15.30 per cent recorded on Tuesday.

Three fatalities were also reported on Tuesday which took the death toll to 2053.One was a resident of Imphal West and two of Imphal East.

One had received first dose of Covid vaccine and two both doses.

So far, 167 vaccinated people including 45 who had taken the second dose have fallen prey to the virus.

In the last 24 hours, 337 patients were discharged from home isolation (241), RIMS (15), JNIMS (32) and CCCs (49) .

The caseload came down to 3943 out of which 1219 (30.92 per cent) are in home isolation.

There are 239 vacant beds available in JNIMS and 143 in RIMS but there is no updated information on bed availability in Covid Care Centres.

Out of the 16 districts, only two were free from the infectious disease on Wednesday.

So far, the state has recorded 8117 positive cases and 51 fatalities since the beginning of the third wave of the pandemic, which could be counted from January 1 this year.

The current month has reported 649 new positive cases and 7 fatalities.

The weekly number of new cases and new fatalities are 2566 and 19 respectively.

According to official reports, the 322 fresh cases included 319 people (143 male & 176 female) from among the general population and 3 personnel from Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) whose samples were confirmed at RIMS (50), JNIMS (23) and other testing centres (249) .

The positive cases from among the general population are from Imphal East (70), Imphal West (113), Thoubal (30), Bishnupur (19), Kakching (15), Kamjong (3), Kangpokpi (6), Tamenglong (10), Tengnoupal (2), Ukhrul (5), Noney (5), Senapati (4), Chandel (8) and Churachandpur (29).All necessary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place.

The cumulative number of positive cases has reached 1,33,905 (general population -1,28,939 and CAPF personnel - 4,966) .

Number of recovered cases is 1,27,909 (general population -1,23,111 and CAPF personnel - 4,798) and number of active cases is 3943 (general population - 3782 and CAPF personnel - 161) .

The recovery rate rose to 95.52 per cent.

A total of 246 D-type and 96 B-type Oxygen cylinders have been made available to different health facilities in the last 24 hours.

On the other hand, 10,036 vaccine doses were administered on Tuesday and it took the cumulative number of vaccinated individuals to 14,34,968 out of which 10,53,338 have received the second dose and 32,165 inoculated with precautionary doses.

As per data maintained by The People's Chronicle based on IDSP and CCR reports, number of total cases in different districts are Imphal West (47,584), Imphal East (29,709), Thoubal (9913), Churachandpur (10,887), Kangpokpi (3055) Tamenglong (3395), Bishnupur (9571), Senapati (2411), Ukhrul (3149), Kakching (6718), Chandel (2627), Noney (1129), Tengnoupal (1164), Jiribam (1108), Kamjong (1020) and Pherzawl (465) .

Fatality counts in different districts are Imphal West (689), Imphal East (492), Thoubal (180), Churachandpur (166), Kangpokpi (65), Tamenglong (15), Bishnupur (198), Senapati (11), Ukhrul (48), Kakching (117), Chandel (42), Noney (4), Tengnoupal (14), Jiribam (7), Kamjong (5) and Pherzawl (0) .

Data analysed by this daily shows that the rate of infection remains 43,153 confirmed cases per million population (based on projected population of 31,03,000 as per NCP report) against the.national average of 29,705 CPM.

Test rate has improved to 4,93,698 tests per million population against the national average of 5,22,613 TPM.

Case fatality rate stands at 1.53 per cent.

In the past 24 hours, only 2116 samples were tested and the single day positivity rate was 15.22 per cent while the cumulative positivity rose to 8.74 per cent.
