Imphal, October 16 2021:
While pointing out that the average positivity rate in the state in last few days has dipped to 5.2 per cent, assistant director (health) Dr Kh Sasheekumar Mangang has said that the Covid-19 situation has improved significantly in the state.
Addressing the weekly press meet of the health department in relation with Covid-19 pandemic at the health directorate office at Lamphelpat here on Saturday, Dr Sasheekumar said that there are possibilities of the state seeing a slight spike in the daily positivity rate due to violation of Covid relevant guidelines and appropriate behaviour.
However, it is unlikely to affect the present situation, which is experiencing significant improvement, he said and stressed the need for speeding up the vaccination process in order to get rid of the pandemic.
Now, maximum numbers of the tests are diagnostic testing and there are very less mass surveillance testing.
As of Friday, the state had 1444 active cases.
One third of the state's total population had received at least first dose of Covid vaccine and it helps in reducing the impact of the Covid-19.As of now, there is no further case of new strain detected in the state but monitoring cell is functioning at Imphal International Airport as a preventive measure to filter new strain, which has not yet been found in the state.
With 1444 active cases on Friday, the state has 48 active cases per lakh population.
As per the WHO guidelines 50 to 150 active cases per lakh is considered non-alarming.
As the Covid-19 condition in the state at present is under control, there is strong possibility of bringing down the active cases to zero in a couple of months based on the present trajectory, he said.
Regarding the increasing activities related with election, Dr Sasheekumar suggested introduction of a new system of vaccination certificate to be used as a pass for attending election related gatherings.
Restricting unvaccinated people from entering such gatherings could help in minimizing the chances of virus resurge.
Introducing such system will also earn respect from the public, he contended.
