Imphal, January 29 2022:
BJP Manipur Pradesh president A Sharda has ruled out disagreement among party leaders in selection of party's candidates for the upcoming state assembly election.Speaking to The People's Chronicle on Saturday, Sharda explained that there is a certain process to be followed by the party regarding selection of candidates.
She along with chief minister N Biren and works minister Th Biswajit had submitted proposals and it is now up to the party's central leadership to take their decision.
Stating that there is no disagreement over the selection of candidates, she said that the public could have clearly seen a tense atmosphere when they returned from Delhi if there was any disagree-ment.
She had been member of election committee in past elections and unlike the past, there is a consensus among the party leaders regarding selection of candidates, she maintained. However, Sharda said, the central leaders will definitely inform the state unit prior to declaration of the candi-dates' list.
She also said that the list will be declared within the current month but there is no confirmation if the same will be announced on a single day or in phased manner.
Regarding the meetings of election committee with party lead-ers, she said that the meeting minutely discussed the probabilities of winning and other aspects for all the intending candidates who are seeking party tickets, and they simply submitted the recom-mendation adopted during the three rounds of meetings to the central leaders.
The meetings also discussed the strategy for ensuring victory of party candidates.
Responding to queries regarding reports of striking out some sitting MLAs from the candidates' list, Sharda said that there are many speculations doing the round among the public.
One can presume anything but she cannot deny or confirm those reports since the central leaders have not declared the candidates' list.
Since there is a coalition government, there can be friendly fight among the alliance partners in some constituencies.
However, there is no question of any pre-poll alliance and she cannot say anything about post-poll alliance as it can only be decided after the election results are declared.
Apart from the party high command, NEDA will also have some influence in the post poll scenario, she added.Regarding the large number of intending candidates seek-ing party tickets in different ACs, the president said that as of now all the intending candidates are in an under-standing of supporting the candidate approved by the party leaders.
As such, there will not be any major problem after announcing the candi-dates' list.
Most of the intend-ing candidates will follow the strict discipline of the party, she asserted and noted that public support for BJP is also growing in the state as the election dates draw closer.
She expressed confidence that the party will see some women candidates in the list.
