Imphal, January 29 2022:
Just a few days after the National People's Party (NPP) announced its first list of 20 candidates for the 2022 Assembly election, Deputy Chief Minister Y Joykumar today informed that the party has hand-picked about 13 more candidates for incorporation in its second list.
According to him, the NPP is likely to name about 20 more candidates in the next list after the BJP names its candidates.
Notably, NPP was the first political party to release its election manifesto and it centres on the removal of the controversial AFSPA.
Addressing a felicitation ceremony of Lourembam Sanjoy who will contest the ensuing election as an NPP candidate from Andro Assembly at Iroisemba, the Deputy Chief Minister continued that more intending candidates of BJP with high prospects of winning will join them once the ruling party announces its candidates list.
He said that the NPP is waiting for the BJP to announce its list.
Claiming that NPP will easily win 20 seats and emerge as the single largest party after the election which has been scheduled on February 27 and March 3, the NPP National vice president maintained that there is also a possibility of them winning above 25 seats.
"Unlike the BJP and Congress which have been dreaming of absolute majority, our figure has been worked out after a careful analysis," he said and added that no other party will win more than 15-16 seats.
Saying that the NPP had already released its election manifesto, Y Joykumar urged all electors to review the commitment of all parties before casting their valuable votes.
He further stated that L Sanjoy joining the NPP is a welcome move and the party counts him as a prospective candidate too.
Maintaining that the State will develop only when all communities work collectively, the Deputy Chief Minister reiterated that the NPP advocates one voice, one North East stand.
"Our duty as a political party is to make the voice of the North East be heard at the Centre," he asserted.
NPP general secretary (organisation) Sheikh Noorul Hasan also attended the programme.
