State level Louroi festival begins

State Level Louroi Fes-tival Observation Commit-tee (LFOC) along with YDA, Prince Club, YDC, LDA Waiton, Waiton Gram Panchayat and Kaorel Khumbong jointly or-ganised the 12th state level Louroi festival on the theme of worshipping mother earth and respecting farmers at Waiton Mamang Leikai community hall on Saturday.The inaugural function of the two-day festival was attended by Imphal West Adhyaksha RK Taruni as chief guest, LFOC chairman Padmashree L Nabakishore, who is also known as father of handicapped, as president and NABARD Manipur Region CGM/OIC Dr M Srinivasa Rao, UCM president Joychandra Konthoujam, Kakching Col-lege associate professor Dr O Sarita, Ngairangbam GP Pradhan Th Sanjay Meitei, Nandeibam Leikai GP prad-han Y Chitra, Nongren Ching-nungkhok GP pradhan M Bi-lashini, Moirangkampu GP pradhan L Rameshwor, Phei-yeng GP pradhan S Samasakhi and LFOC co-convenor and Waiton GP pradhan P Surabala as guests of honour.
Speaking at the function, L Nabakishore explained that the festival is being organised to highlight the sacrificial works of the farmers and to support them.
People irrespective of rich or poor need the help of farmers to live as no one can survive without food.
The food we eat are produced by farm-ers.
So, they should be highly respected, he continued.
Urging the government to observe a day for farmers, he exhorted the people to respect farmers, farm equipment and the mother earth.Delivering key note address, LFOC convenor Lokendro Longjam contended that farm-ers who have been producing our food were sometimes be-trayed by the very people.
As such, giving highest respect to the farmers is the main objective of the festival, he continued, while highlighting the need to preserve farming methods of the ancestors.
