Imphal, January 29 2022:
Many have reacted strongly against the controversial statement made by Dr Mohan Bhagwat, Chief of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) wherein he said that 'Manipur has been contributing in India's history since Mahabharat times' .
He made the above statement while speaking during the book release function of 'Unsung Anglo-Manipuri War Heroes at Kalapani' held at Rajarshi Bhagyachandra Skill Development Centre (RBSDC), Haraorou, Imphal East on January 24 .
Denouncing the statement, Ethno Heritage Council (HERICOUN) in a press release said that such a statement may mislead the current and future generation about the history and heritage of Manipur and urged that the RSS Chief should clarify publicly through print and electronic media regarding the statement.
The Justice Committee on Anglo-Manipuri War 1891 Martyrs and Freedom Fighters of Kangleipak (Manipur) too has come out strongly against RSS Chief Dr Mohan Bhagwat's depiction of the Manipur of today and the one in Mahabharat as one and the same.
Iramdam Kanba Apunba Lup (IKAL), Apunba Ireipakki Maheiroi Singpanglup (AIMS) and Kangleipak Students' Association in different statements have condemned the statement of RSS Chief in the strongest term.
Stating that such a statement from RSS Chief shows his ignorance about Manipur's history, IKAL maintained that it is a mockery to the future generation since Manipur has no relations with Mahabharat.
Reacting strongly against the statement, AIMS has urged the RSS Chief to clarify on the same within four days failing which AIMS will take up strong form of agitations along with the support from the public.
KSA also maintained that the shallow statement of the RSS Chief is trying to project the history of the State in a wrong path.
