Sahitya Parishad fetes Litterateurs, artistes

Eminent litterateurs and artistes of the State were honoured today by Manipuri Sahitya Parishad during the valedictory function of its 78th Annual Session held at Jawaharlal Nehru Dance Academy here.
The function was attended by Chief Minister Okram Ibobi as Chief Guest and Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam as Guest of Honour while President of Manipuri Sahitya Parishad Prof Elangbam Dinamani as functional president.
The litterateurs and artistes were honoured with the annual Upadhi, cash prize, book prize and gold medals by the Parishad.
Speaking at the function, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi lauded Manipuri Sahitya Parishad as one of the oldest literary bodies in the Northeast working for the development and promotion of Manipuri literature.
The Sahitya Parishad has many extraordinary things which literary bodies of other states do not possess, he noted.

The State Government would render all possible help and support to the Parishad for further development and promotion of Manipuri literature in the world, Ibobi assured. Hailing Manipuri as the most developed language in the whole Northeast, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam commended the Sahitya Parishad for its role in the development of Manipuri language and literature at the highest level.
He further said that the Nagamese spoken in the neighbouring State Nagaland is just an amalgamation of several languages.
No other language in the Northeast is more developed and enriched than the Manipuri language, Gaikhangam maintained.
On the occasion, altogether 16 persons were honoured with the Upadhi.
They are namely Khuraijam Nimaicharan of Khurai Thangjam Leikai (Sahitya Bhusan), Oinam Nilakant of Rangpur Shibbari, Silchar (Sahitya Bhusan), Moirangthem Rajendra of Tentha Khunjao (Kabya Bhusan), B Kulachandra Sharma of Bamol Leikai (Gabesana Bhusan),Late Khundrakpam Joykumar of Kwakeithel (Sangeet Ratna Matam Eshei), Yumlembam Ranjana of Yaiskul (Sangeet Ratna Nat), Soibam Achou of Thoubal (Sangeet Bhusan Khunung Eshei), Thokchom Ibohal of Chingamakha (Badya Bhusan Pung), Maisnam Kriti of Pishum Ningom Leirak (Nat Bhusan), Laipubam Bino Devi of Brahmapur Laipubam Leikai (Nat Bhusan Ras), Laibaklotpi of Naoremthong ( Nityaratna Ras), RK Achouba of Moirangkhom (Nityaratna Lai Haraoba), Heisnam Indu of Keishamthong (Natyabhusan Drama), Mangichand of Luwangsangbam (Natyabhusan Lai Haraoba) and Dr L Tondon of Wangkhei Thangjam Leikai.
Haobijam Amutombi of Sugnu Siphai was the cash prize winner in drama.
Haobijam Ibungoyaima Memorial Prize was given to Kshetrimayum Ibohal of Chingamakha Kshetri Leikai while the gold medals were presented to Thokchom Ibemmu of Keishampat and Mairembam Ranjit.
