Imphal, May 12 2013:
The identity of the man found dead with a slit throat in Imphal riverbed along Kangpokpi-Saikul road has been ascertained.
The man has been identified as Komit Ali (22) s/o Majid Ali of Dikhyajuli village of Sonitpur district, Assam.
A source said that Komit was a truck driver.
Komit's identity was established after the handyman of his truck, Zakir Hussain (13) of Bukhuliya of Karbi Anglong district, Assam informed the incident to Komit's family.
According to Zakir, they were transporting eatables worth Rs 3 lakhs in their truck (AS-01 CC/2206) from Guwahati to Imphal.
One Ramdhar Singh of Fatasil is the owner of the truck.
Komit was abducted by two persons while they were having meal at MM Hotel, Sekmai in the evening of May 9 .
The two persons looked like Muslim and came in a black Santro car, Zakir said.
He added that a Muslim truck driver came later at the hotel and told Zakir that Komit had gone to the place where they had to unload the truck.
Zakir said that their truck was ridden by
the driver upto Imphal.
On reaching Imphal, the occupants of the black Santro car asked Zakir to go back home saying that Komit had eloped a girl.
They also gave a bus ticket to reach Dimapur.
Komit's family members came to Imphal as Zakir narrated the story to them but Komit's body was found lying at RIMS morgue.
Although, Komit's body has been handed over to his family after conducting post mortem examination today, his truck is still traceless.
Meanwhile, All Manipur Road Transport and Motor Workers' Welfare Association general secretary Kulamani has strongly condemned the incident.
He also demanded that the culprits of the incident be awarded with befitting punishment.
