CM inaugurates two bridges

Chief Minister N Biren Singh inaugurated two bridges constructed over Imphal River at Ngathem Mapa and Achanbigei Awang Leikai in Imphal East district under Heingang assembly constituency which he represents.
The bridges were constructed by Manipur State Rural Road Development Agency under.
PMGSY scheme.
The bridge at Ngathem Mapa having a length of 64 metres was constructed at a cost of Rs 720.05 lakh while the bridge at Achanbigei Awang Leikai worth Rs 712.23 lakh has the length of 72 metres.
Construction of both the bridges began on March 7,2019 and completed on November 22, 2021.Speaking on the sidelines of the inauguration function, Biren confided that the state government is keeping a close tab on the situation together with the Centre on feasibility of repealing of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) 1958 from the northeast region.
With regard to the petition filed in the Supreme Court against implementation of the Inner Line Permit system in the state, the chief minister referred to the state cabinet's decision to fight it legally at the maximum level.
The chief minister pointed out that Imphal River passes through Heingang AC covering a stretch of around 17 kms.
However, there were not enough number of bridges earlier.
As such, government decided to construct these concrete bridges at strategic points for the convenience of the public, he added.
CM Biren also informed that construction of different infrastructure projects across the state, including those which Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stones would continue as usual even during the enforcement of Election Model Code of Conduct.
He said that government has also set a target to provide tap water to 80 per cent of total households of the state.
