Kakching, May 27 2014:
Sending out a strong message to the Government as well as BRO/BRTF which have been allegedly ignoring the aspiration of the people, a mass social service was carried out today to start repairing the deplorable road stretch from Pallel to Modi via district headquarters town.
Responding to the call of Chandel Naga People's Organisation (CNPO), a large number of people including men, women, youth and children residing along the deplorable road stretch came out since 8 am with spades and shovels to lend hands in repairing the 22-km long road with the target of completing the work before the onset of the Monsoon season.
They helped in filling up the potholes with pebbles and sand that were transported by trucks.

It may be noted here that the development of this road stretch was handed over to BRO/BRTF in 2010 by State Public Works Department.
However, BRTF has been dilly-dallying the work by engaging just three/four labourers for the purpose of repairing the deplorable road for the past four years.
Unhappy over the negligent attitude of both the State Government and the BRO/BRTF towards the problem being faced by the people due to ever worsening condition of the road, CNPO took up the initiative involving affected people themselves in repairing the road to send out a message to all concerned.
Talking to media persons on the sideline of the mass social service, CNPO president Ws.
Kanral Anal pointed out that the deplorable condition of the road has made the people of Chandel district poorer as more fuels were consumed, vehicles often broke down on the way and it also affected the health of the travellers from the dust kicked up during dry season and the mud during rainy season.
Lamenting over the failure of the Government to redress the grievances of the people despite submission of various representations in this regard, Kanral wondered whether there is any government in the State.
"If there is a good government, then the road should be repaired at the earliest", he added.
Meanwhile, CNPO president has expressed gratitude to the District Administration of Chandel District, 41-MLA Nunghlung Victor, Commanding Officer of both 20 Assam Rifles and 8 Manipur Rifles, Contractor Association of Chandel District, Tribe Leaders of the Seven Naga Tribes and villagers for their cooperation and assistance in carrying out the mass social service work successfully.
He hoped that this event would wake up the conscience of the Government and the BRO/BRTF towards the suffering of the people in Chandel district.
