Imphal, May 27 2014:
Inauguration function of a 15-day health care programme on 'Yoga for elementary School Teachers, Imphal West', organised by SCERT, Govt of Manipur has been held today at the SCERT Eduset hall in DM College campus.
Among others the inaugural session was graced by SCERT's DIET in-charge K Ishokumar, Test Book Officer M Nalini Devi and Programme coordinator Dr Y Nandini Devi as the presidium members.
Regretting that upheavals and chaos besetting the State at alarming frequency do not augur well for the people making them more vulnerable to mental disorder and its consequent impact on the physical health, Dr nandini addressing the gathering said regular yoga practice will enable one to keep away from anxiety-related problems, stay healthy and mentally alert.
Reminding that daily indulgence in yoga chores will bring immense benefit to the practitioner(s), she also highlighted that involving the younger generation would be helpful in preventing the youths from deviating away from societal norms.
Dr nandani also prevailed upon the participants on the need to impart yoga lessons gained at the training programme to their students to make the programme a purposeful endeavour.
She further declared that issuance of certificate would be based on punctuality and regularity of the participants.
Speaking at the occasion, DIET in-charge K Ishokumar said inspite of universal acceptance of yoga as the elixir for physical and mental development absence of basic knowledge on the same would do more harm than good.
Even though yoga has been included as a school syllabus in the primary level practical application of the subject upon the young students is not advisable for making them understand theories and benefits of yoga should be the main focus of the teachers, he explained.
In all 20 elementary school teachers of Imphal West district are taking part at the programme wherein classes are conducted from 8 to 10 am.
