Imphal, May 27 2014:
In the light of the Chief Minister denying knowledge on the relocation of Senapati Sports Complex from Mayangkhang to Karong which appeared in a section of the press, the Senapati District Olympic Association, Manipur (SDOAM) has clarified that the Sports Complex at Karong was shifted from Mayangkhang in 2010 with the initiative of the then YAS Minister Biren and with the knowledge of the Chief Minister.
The SDOAM in a press statement said that the foundation for the sports complex, constructed under the NLCPR, was laid by the Chief Minister at Mayangkhang.
However, the construction of the complex could not gain much pace as land owners stood in the way of the construction due to incomplete land acquisition process.
Subsequently, the proposed sports complex was deemed to lapse.
The SDOAM along with the Sports Minister Biren started looking out for an alternative site.
With the initiative of the Poumai Naga Students' Union, the site for the complex was relocated at Karong, the SDOAM said.
The SDOAM further invited the CM to pay a visit to the present site to inspect the progress of the construction works rather than depending on irrelevant information fed by some vested interests.
