Moreh, October 01 2022:
While stressing the need for abolishing the ongoing roster system for doctors at government hospitals, United Committee Manipur (UCM) president Joychandra Konthoujam said the culture of doctors working at government hospital for 15 days and taking rest for another 15 days in a month, during which they actually work at private hospitals, needs to be abolished.
Joychandra stated this during an awareness camp on Dengue held in Moreh under the joint aegis of directorate of health services and National Health Mission in view of the ever-increasing Dengue cases in the border town.
In his speech at the camp, Joychandra informed that only four doctors were found present at Moreh hospital though government posted 15 doctors at the hospital.
When UCM approached the hospital for releasing some doctors for medical camps to be held simultaneously at three differ ent places in the border town, hospital administration denied the same.
The hospital administration explained that releasing three out of four doctors would leave no doctor to attend to patients and accordingly the medical camps were opened with only one doctor, he said.
He further stressed the need for abolishing the culture of utilising doctors at their favoured places rather than serving at their respective place of postings while suggesting that government look into this matter seriously and stop the roster system of health services which allows doctors to get salary from one place but work at another place.
Regarding spread of Dengue'cases in the border town, the UCM president said that efforts of district Malaria department for containing the disease remain futile due to lack of community involvement.
He maintained that containing Dengue by staff of Malaria department alone is impossible without the support and participation of the general public.
Meanwhile, a team of UCM led by Joychandra in coordination with district Malaria department of Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal and Tengnoupal carried out fogging from Ima Kondong Lairembi Haraobung to Moreh Heinoumakhong Leikai.
The team also gifted chemically treated mosquito nets to all the Dengue patients currently undergoing treatment at Moreh hospital and conducted chemical treatment of mosquito nets of every household of the localities.
Meanwhile, District Malaria Officer, Tengnoupal Dr Manibushan informed that altogether 259 people have contracted Dengue so far in Moreh and eight active cases are currently undergoing treatment at Moreh hospital.
He said that involvement of volunteers is required for eradicating Dengue from Moreh town and sought support from general public in the department's efforts to contain spread of the disease.
