Imphal, December 20 2016:
As a part of the Goodwill Mission for Peaceful Co-existence, a public meeting was held today at Lamlai.
The meeting was attended by around 400 people including former Minister RV Mingthing, Ningthouja Lancha, Abdul Pathal, Irom Sharmila and members and volunteers of 39 clubs located between Lamlong and Yaingangpokpi.
The meeting strongly condemned the indefinite economic blockade being imposed on National Highways leading to Manipur by the United Naga Council (UNC).
Many speakers who addressed the gathering said that the State Government and the Government of India should hold a tripartite dialogue with the UNC and resolve the issue rather than blaming each other.
Any demand/agitation should be done under an accountable body.
Agitation by groups of individuals at their own whims without any guidance or directive often leads to untoward incidents.
As such, all agitation should be guided and spearheaded by an accountable body, they maintained.
