Imphal, December 20 2016:
The Youth's Forum for Protection of Human Rights (YFPHR) has urged the Government of Manipur to conduct a special investigation into the ambush at Lokchao which left three police personnel dead.
In a press release issued by the YFPHR, its secretary of publicity N Suresh Singh urged the Government of Manipur to conduct a special investigation as the ambush happened not far away from Territorial Army posts and seemed to suggest an alleged conspiracy.
The security coverage of the ambush area was to be assisted by the Territorial Army by conducting road opening patrol but such obligatory initiative was not performed and had to be done by Manipur police personnel, it added.
He pointed out that the State Government need to constitute an Inquiry Committee to investigate the matter and if Central forces were found neglecting their duty to aid the civil administration of the State, then the State has ample authority to take up legal action against the Central forces.
