Kangpokpi celebrates district status

People of Kangpokpi and surrounding areas today celebrated the creation of Kangpokpi district with elan and gaiety at Brig Thomas Ground.
The celebration organised by the Celebration Committee, 50-Kangpokpi was marked by paying profuse gratitude to Chief Minister O Ibobi and his Council of Ministers for fulfilling the people's long cherished dream, prayer service to promote harmony among all communities settled in Kangpokpi district, partaking grand feast and dance and music programme in the evening.
Kangpokpi AC MLA Nemcha Kipgen honoured five people who were killed in the course of the people's struggle for alleviating Sadar Hills to the status of a full fledged district by presenting gifts to their family members.

The celebration committee also presented gifts to Nemcha Kipgen, Sadar Hills ADC Chairman Haokholal Hangshing and Sadar Hills ADC Members.
Speaking at the gathering, Nemcha Kipgen said that Sadar Hills district could not be realized for a prolonged on account of lack of unity among the masses.
"My main objective for fighting the last Assembly election was to fulfil people's aspiration for a full fledged district.
Now the people's aspiration has been fulfilled although the new district has been named Kangpokpi", Nemcha Kipgen said.
She then appealed to the gathering to re-elect her once again so that she can take up a number of development programmes for Kangpokpi district.
Haokholal Hangshing remarked that Kangpokpi district was created as a result of the united struggle of the MLAs representing three Assembly segments located within Kangpokpi AC, civil society organisations, the JAC and the general public.
