Imphal-Moreh section to be surveyed

Union Ministerof Railways, Communications and Electronics & IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw conducted an aerial inspection of the Jiribam-lmphal rail connectivity on Wednesday.
The Union Minister took the chopper trip from Imphal to oversee the world's highest railways bridge and then flew towards Jiribam side.
In another development, the Ministry of Railways has accorded sanction for the Final Location survey of the Imphal-Moreh section of about 111 km for construction of a new BG line connecting India and Myanmar.
Consequent to conduct of the aerial survey, union minister Ashwini ordered the survey for new line up to Moreh, which once constructed will be of strategic importance and will form an important part of the proposed Trans-Asian Railway which will connect India with South East Asia on rail network.
Meanwhile, Ashwini Vaishnaw and chief minister N Biren jointly flagged off the extended services of passenger train between Silchar and Jiribam up to Vangaichungpao on Wednesday.
The flagging off programme was held remotely through video link from Imphal.
The extended ralline is tar -geted to start engine rolling for goods train up to Kaimai Road railway station by the end of this month and in Vangaichungpao-Khongsang section by March, 2022 .
According to NFR chief public relations officer Guneet Kaur the passenger train service extended up to Vangaichungpao will fulfil long standing requirement of the people of Manipur.
The frequency of this train service has also been increased from bi-weekly to daily with effect from January 6.It is said that Train No.05659 will start from Silchar daily at 16-00 hours to reach Vangaichungpao at 19-15 hours.
During return journey, train No 05660 will start from Vangaichungpao at 07-15 hours to reach Silchar at 10-40 hours.
Better connectivity with Silchar (nearest big city) will help people to fulfil their needs of better medical, educational facilities as well as air connectivity.
People from this hilly state will be able to directly travel by train to all major cities of the country.
Travel time for the people of Manipur will be reduced by 10-12 hours.
This service is expected to boost the socio-economic condition of the people of Manipur, the officer added.
