Imphal, June 27 2014 :
This is the story of a Government school that has been left high and dry, thanks to Govt apathy.
With the concerned authorities failing to fill the vacant post of headmaster in Malom Mega Government High School for a long time, teachers and staffs of the school are yet to receive due salaries for more than five months now as there is no one in the school who can execute works of a DDO after the retirement of its headmaster.
Sources said after the retirement of the school's principal identified as Babudhon in February last, the government has not initiate any step for filling up the lying vacant post which in turn has paralyzed smooth administration of the school and left its teachers and staffs without getting their salaries for more than five months now.
Concerned on the development in the school following the retirement of the headmaster, staffs of the school had held discussion with ZEO Wangoi on the matter but as far as payment of their due salaries is concerned, the ZEO was also helpless as process for clearing of the salaries could not be done without a DDO in the school.
Even though teachers of the school in one of their meetings had appointed a new headmaster in-charge and urged with the Education Minister to hand over DDO power to the appointed headmaster in-charge, no positive response has been given so far, the sources said.
Not only this, the former headmaster is also yet to get due his pension amount as there is no one in the school who could provide approval signature for clearing of his pension.
Apart from the headmaster, the post of second headmaster, clerk and peon are also reportedly lying vacant in the said school.
To do the needful chores of day to day functioning of the school, a peon was engaged by teachers of the school by contributing money from among themselves.
The school, which had once a total staff of 26 is now reduced to 19 only and two more teachers are due to retire in next year, the sources added.
Established in 1952, Malom Mega Govt High School had produced many bright students in the past who are now serving as doctor, engineer, professor and high ranking officials in various Government departments.
Unlike in the past, there are only 53 students studying in the school now.
In the HSLC examination 2014, only six students were able to pass in second division out of the total nine appeared while in the 2013 examination, 15 students out of the total 22 managed to clear the exam with some securing letter marks.
As for the coming year, only ten students will be facing the exam.
