Helen Keller's birth anniversary observed

The 134th birth anniversary observance of Helen Keller was today organised by Handicapped Development Foundation at Manipur Press Club during which prizes for essay competition on the theme "Helen Keller's Contribution Towards Disabilities" were also distributed.
As chief guest of the function, Thounaojam Iboyaima, Father of Social Work, expressed that the struggle for equal footing of the differently abled persons in the society has gained momentum and added that organising an essay competition on Helen Keller was a right step towards this common goal.
He also mentioned that Helen Keller was not only a blind woman but also a hearing impaired one but she remained a torch bearer to the differently abled persons as she rendered many welfare services for them and added that Helen Keller had authored a number of books so as to awake the masses of the world.
Iboyaima further expressed his desire to be translated into action by the fully abled persons towards peaceful coexistence in the socially and economically ruined Manipur.
Chairman of the HD Foundation Dr Ch Rupa-chandra Singh, social activist Dr Dhanabir Laishram, retired lecturer of GP Women's College & president of Kuki Mothers' Union Manipur Rose Mangshi Haokip, and Associate Professor of English Department of MB College Chingsubam Thoiba also attended the function as president and guests of honour respectively.
It may be mentioned that the essay competition was held on June 22 last at Kebol Girls' High School Tera Bazar in which Rambha Devi Mairenbam of TG Higher Secondary School stood first while Sonali Das of Maria Montesory Senior Secondary School and Naoba Yumnam of Vision Creative of Science got second and third prizes respectively.
