Imphal, June 27 2014 :
With the cease work strike being undertaken by casual and muster roll workers completing three days today, normal functions of Forest Department have been paralyzed.
Altogether 266 casual and muster roll staff launched the cease work strike since June 25 demanding service regularization.
They also prevented regular staff from discharging their official duties.
Speaking to media persons this afternoon, All Manipur Forest Department Employees and Workers Union Ad-hoc Committee executive member Sanabam Kumar said they undertook a similar agitation from June 1 to 7 last year.
The agitation was called as the Government has failed to implement the assurance to regularize the casual and muster roll staff after appointing them on contract basis for a period of three months.
That was why, the cease work strike was launched again, Kumar said.
No procedures have been initiated to appoint the casual and muster roll staff on contract basis, leave aside service regularization although many of them have been working at the department for more than 25 years.
On the other hand, there are 377 vacant posts in the department.
Casual/muster roll staff are posted at Keibul Lamjao National Park, different wildlife sanctuaries, Manipur Zoological Garden, Forest headoffice, reserved forest areas and many forest check posts.
All activities and functions would be severely affected by the cease work strike, Kumar said.
