Animals, birds rescued; illegal owner arrested

A team of Peoples for Animal (PFA), Churachandpur Unit led by Churachandpur Officer-in-charge MA Salem rescued 31 Parikeet Parrots and apprehended the owner at New Bazaar, Churachandpur today morning.
According to a PFA release, the illegal owner of the birds identified as Ngainu (45) wife of Vungkhosat of Bethel Veng, New Lamka, has been remanded to police custody, and the birds would be released back to the wild after examining their health.
In another incident, one Malayan Box turtle was handed over to PFA, Thoubal by one Konthoujam Heramot of Poiroukhongjin, who bought the animal at Rs.500/- from Ima Market of Khwairamband in Imphal.
PFA has warned all the shops and vendor keepers to avoid selling wild animals and its products.
Meanwhile, one Heigrujam Jayanti Devi of Sagolband Meino Leirak handed over a bird known as Indian Roller, the state bird of Karnataka.
The PFA released it yesterday.
PFA received another Malayan Box turtle from one Haorongbam Kiran of Singjamei Makha Khongnang Feidekpi , who found the animal on the road near his house.
