Imphal, June 27 2014 :
The JAC constituted against the alleged illegal eviction of Nungoi village under Sawombung circle on the pretext of setting up an FCI godown has threatened to impose a general strike for 48 hours from August 1 if the Government doesn't revoke the order by June 30 .
The JAC in a statement said that the people of Nungoi village (Village No 29 of CS Dag No 2040) measuring an area of 21.43 acres have been living in peace and prosperity since 1964 .
However without any prior notice, the SDO Sawombung issued a notice dated June 10, 2014 and ordered the people to evacuate their houses on June 13 with the help of Sawombung Police.
Even as an objection petition was filed seeking summary enquiry under MLR&LR Rules 18(2) 1961, the SDO Sawombung rejected the petition claiming that he/she is well versed in legal matters.
The officer issued the action notice on June 19 .
The JAC challenged the action notice at the Revenue Tribunal and the Revenue Tribunal ordered that the eviction order be stayed as the eviction notice did not follow the Mandatory Provision Rule 18 (2) MLR and LR Rules 1961 .
A copy of the Stay Order was sent to Lamlai Police, SP Porompat and SDO Sawombung.
Despite the stay order, the SDO Sawombung alongwith SDPO Lamlai came to the spot with JCB and police personell to start the eviction drive.
The stay order was shown to the SDPO Sawombung and SDO Lamlai at the spot but they paid no heed to it.
Later on, the people of Sawombung approached the Imphal East DC and the eviction drive was stopped.
The JAC warned that if they are not informed that the eviction notice has been withdrawn and the process of eviction and dismantling their houses have been dropped by June 30 then they would be conbstrained to impose a 48 hour blockade on the Imphal Ukhrul road.
The State Government and the local MLA should be held responsible in the event of any untoward incident happening, cautioned the JAC.
