Truck mows down eight cows

Imphal, June 27 2014 :
Altogether eight cows have been killed when a heavy vehicle believed to be a loaded truck rammed them along National Highway-37 (Imphal-Silchar Road) at Khumbong Moibung Khongnangkhong in Imphal West district in the wee hours of today.
According to the locals, at around 3.30 am today, there was a loud noise.
When they reached the spot they found seven cows dead and three cows injured.
One cow later succumbed.
The rest two cows were later treated at Khumbong Veterinary Hospital.
The police came to the spot and tried to find out which vehicle was responsible for the incident but to no avail.
Police later filed an FIR in connection with the incident.
The cows belonged to five owners of the area.
Meanhile, the National Highway 37 Club and Meira Paibi's Association, Khumbong Bazar, in a statement condemned the incident which occured at around 3.30 am today in Khumbong Moibung Khongnangkhong.
The Association appealed the Authority concerned to investigate and bring the culprits to light.
It also appealed to compensate the cattle owners.
Stating the restricted road condition as the cause of frequent accidents, the Association urged the State Government to broaden the road between Imphal to Keithelmanbi.
