Foundation stone for bridge construction at Saikhul laid

Foundation stone for a bridge to be constructed at a cost of Rs 4.5 crore across the Ethoi river at Saikhul sub-division of Senapati district was laid today by Work minister K Ranjit at Matakhong near Molkon Bazar.
Education minister DD Thaisii, Deputy Speaker Th Lokeshwor, MLa Doukhomang Khongsai, former minister C Doungel and Saikhul SDO, L Nandakumar attended the foundation stone laying ceremony.
The construction of the bridge was planned as early as in 2008 but it could not be translated into work.
But government has earmarked the fund, said Works minister K Ranjit speaking at the function held after the foundation stone lying ceremony.
As soon as the tender for selecting work agency completed, the ground work will begin.
The tender process will be completed within a month period, he said.
In his speech as president of the function, Th Lokeshwor said that it has been since 2008 that he has been insisting the authority for the construction of the bridge.
The fruit of his effort has been got.
He further said that he will press the government for construction of Molkot market complex too.
DD Thaisii said that it cannot be called developed when development takes place only in Imphal area.
Likewise only hill developed, Manipur cannot be called a developed state.
The need is balance development, he added.
MLA Doukhongmang hopes that with the construction of the bridge will give immense benefits to the people of the area as it will shorten the road to Imphal.
