Imphal, September 26 2014 :
Another cop has been prized Rs.500 for unrecognizing the state Home Minister.
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, who also holds the Home portfolio, today gifted Rs.500 to an Assistant Sub-Inspector of Manipur Police department for failing to recognize him.
The event happened at the SDO Kakching camp office at the Mini Secretariat in Thoubal district, while the Home Minister was coming out after filing nomination of INC candidate E.Dwijamani for the Hiyanglam by-poll.
When the Minister asked the police officer who was sitting nearby whether he knew him (the minister), the ASI replied in the negative.
Interestingly, Gaikhangam handed over a Rs.500 note from his pocket to the policeman, who hesitated to accept, while the Deputy Chief Minister forced him to accept the cash.
In reply to our reporter, the innocent police officer made it straight that he never knew the Home Minister, as he was always on ROP duty elsewhere in the remote places.
After the deputy chief minister left the place, a Thoubal Police team escorted the policeman back.
Such an event is not new, as Home Minister Gaikhangam had earlier rewarded an SPO (VDF) posted at Heirok with a cash of Rs.500 .
An anonymous police officer told our reporter that numerous police personnel in the state cannot establish the identity of the Home Minister because the portraits of Home Ministers are not put up at the police stations, even though those of state DGPs are displayed at the station offices.
State DGP can be identified by all policemen, even though they do not see him personally.
However, the policemen can hardly recognize the Minister, as his portrait is not put up at stations, observed the officer.
He also stressed the need to display the photographs of the Home Minister at Police stations.
