Imphal, September 26 2014 :
All Manipur College Teachers' Association (AMCTA) held an emergency executive meeting from 1 pm at Oriental College today concerning the Government's order to re-activate biometric attendance at Government Colleges in a letter dated September 16 .
Biometric attendance in Government Colleges of Manipur was introduced in July last year.
However, due to unreliable reports and subsequent demands by the teachers the system was called off by the authorities.
The association has expressed its displeasure on the re-issue of the biometric attendance activation order by the Government despite the defects.
A statement issued by the association's joint secretary opined that the Government ought to focus more on solving current issues related to school infrastructure and filling up teaching and non-teaching staff vacancies.
Meanwhile, Federation of Government College Teachers' Association, Manipur, in a statement issued by its general secretary here today, has notified that there would be a special executive meeting for members of the federation to discuss 'Biometrics Attendence at the Government Colleges' and related issues on September 27 at the seminar hall of Imphal college, airport road from 11 am.
A minimum of two teachers or those interested from each Government college can participate in the said meeting.
The suggestions/resolutions taken at the meeting, it added, would be submitted to Government authorities concerned for execution.
AMCTA has further condemned the Government's decision to re-activate the biometric attendance system in selected colleges in the State adding that the authorities ought to reflect upon the matter more deeply before taking such a hasty decision.
