Workshop kick starts

A two-day workshop on toxicity of medicinal plants, jointly organised by Modern College Chemistry Department and Manipur University, has kick started at the hall of Modern College from today.
Manipur University Vice-Chancellor Prof H Nandakumar, Modern College Principal Dr K Biren, and Manipur University Chemistry Department HOD Prof N Homendra graced the opening function as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Prof H Nandakumar while speaking at the function said that numerous medicinal plants are found in the State.
However, there is need for an extensive research to categorise poisonous plants, he added.
'Nomangkha' leaves are known for its medicinal values, however it is said that consumption of 'Nomangkha' leaves leads to kidney failure.
He added that different forms of lifestyle related disorders can be prevented by physical exercise alone.
In his speech, Prof N Hemendra said that Modern College would be able to educate its students that some indigenous medicinal plants are toxic through this workshop.
