CM pitches for drug-free state at marathon event

Chief minister N Biren stressed on the importance for the youth to take up sports with all seriousness so as to excel in all levels of competitions and to help in curbing the menace of drugs and substance in the society.
Speaking prior to flagging off the Manipur Mega Marathon-2022 organised by BJP Manipur Pradesh in connection with Har Ghar Tiranga campaign ahead of the celebration of 75th year of India's independence at Maibam Lokpa Ching, Nambol in Bishnupur district on Friday, chief minister Biren highlighted that the BJP government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been taking up various welfare activities for the people in connection with the celebration of India's independence.
He said that Manipur became a part of India in 1949 and hence every people of the state should join the Independence Day celebration.
Later taking to the social media, CM Biren said: "It is a great way to usher in the 75th year of Independence by indulging in sports which is Manipur's forte and gift to the country.
May all our youths take up one sport each and abstain from drugs and contribute more to the sporting legacy of India".
BJP Manipur Pradesh president A Sharda Devi, who also briefly addressed the gathering, said that various programmes based on the theme of patriotism are being organised in connection with the 75th year of India's independence and these programmes under the aegis of Prime Minister Narendra Modi are being organised with the main objective to increase the spirit of patriotism among people.
The Mega Marathon was organised by BJP Manipur Pradesh under the aegis of Athletic Association of Manipur in commemoration of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
H Ngaopulou from Senapati district won the men's category of competition while H Bhumeswari Devi of SAI-NCOE wrested the top title in the women's category.
Around 2000 runners from different parts of the state and outside took part in the marathon which was flagged off jointly by chief minister Biren and BJP state president A Sharda Devi.
Cash prizes for the mega marathon were distributed to athletes at the finishing point at Khuman Lampak main station.
Besides the two, ministers Th Biswajit Singh, Nemcha Kipgen, Yumnam Khemchand, Dr Sapam Ranjan, Heikham Dingo Singh, L Susindro Meitei, Th Basantakumar, Letpao Haokip, Govindas Konthoujam and other dignitaries attended the event.
CM Biren also hoisted the National flag at his residence as part of the Har Ghar Thanga campaign.
"With rituals and religious fervour, I have hoisted the National flag at my residence as part of the #HarGharTiranga movement on this auspicious occasion of #AzadiKaAmrit-Mahotsa," the chief minister said on Twitter.
MLA Sagolshem Kebi, ex-MLA L Radhak ishore, BJP Nambol Mandal president Salam Brajamani, Bishnupur DC Lourembam Bikram, SP Ningthoujam Herojit, ADM Hanjabam Boby Sharma and BJP leaders and workers were also present at the flag-off point.
