Imphal, August 12, 2014:
Demanding the arrest of real culprits behind the killing of Soram Prakrit (32) of Uripok Sorbon Thingel, Imphal West who was found dead in suspicious manner at a paddy field along Sangakpham-Kairang Road on July 6 last, locals of Uripok Sorbon Thingel and members of People Action Committee (PAC) formed in connection with the incident jointly staged a sit-in-protest at the complex of Chief Judicial Magistrate Court at Lamphelpat today.
The protesters were waiting for appearance of Momo of Lamboi Khongnangkhong before the court at around 11 am.
He was arrested by police for his alleged involvement in killing.
Speaking to media persons, L Surchandra, convener of PAC, alleged that unfair investigations into the case has prompted the locals including PAC to come up with agitations, and lamented that police have not yet arrested lady singer Alvina Gonsam who called out Prakrit through his mobile phone a day before he was found dead.
He pointed out that police arrested Momo who is said to be drug addict and a few others just to show that Prakrit died of drug overdose which is not true.
While demanding the case to be handed over to CBI for fair investigation and ensuring justice as the government has failed to do so, he cautioned that the committee in collaboration with public and civil society organizations will resort to a series of intense agitations if the government fails to book the real culprits involved in the killing of the youth at the earliest.
