CM and JAC reach agreement on Pallel May 5 Firing Incident

There was a late night agreement on Thursday between the Chief Minister Okram Ibobi and the representatives of the Joint Action Committee formed to spearhead the agitations against the Pallel firings on Tuesday night.
The JAC has agreed to take charge of the dead body of Moirangthem Gopal who was killed in the indiscriminate firings.
The last rites will be performed on Friday.
It may be recalled that during the Lai Haraoba religious festivity at Aimol Satu some persons had opened fire killing one and injuring four others.
Police have arrested one person said to be the main suspect.
Bereaved family members were also present during the talks.
In reply to queries of the family members the chief minister reportedly said that the government sanctioned amount for exgratia is Rs 5 lakh.

A cabinet meeting will be held sometime on May 15 to take decision to increase the amount to Rs 10 lakh.
However payments and formalities will be done only after the June 1 ADC elections since there is restriction by the model code of conduct.
Besides one member of the family will be given government job as per educational qualifications.
The seriously wounded persons will be given Rs 1 lakh each and Rs 50000 for the less injured ones.
The organisors of the religious function agreed to scale down the amount of punitive fine from Rs 15 lakh to something reasonable.
DK Korungthang, MLA and DIG Range II S Ibocha were also present in the meeting.
The JAC also urged the government to arrest other absconding persons since it was not the work of a lone ranger.
The JAC threatened that if the government does not implement the assurances there will be more agitations.
The general strike shall be in force till the cremation is over.
There were sit in protests at Chandel Lamkhai and the curfew is still in force.
Besides the Lai Haraoba festivity is still on.
Though the situation is still tense it is reportedly well under control.
