Imphal, September 24 2014:
Manipur Electricity Employees' Union (MEEU) has communicated to the general public to note down the names of or pictures of the workers who individually visit households to install electric metres in case they demand money for the service.
In a press meet held at the conference hall of the union, Keishampat Electricity complex, MEEU president Yumnam Ranapratap said there have been reports that validates the news of workers charging money for installing/depositing electric metres at households.
Metre installation workers work on contract basis.
As such, the work does not necessitate extra charge from individual households.
The public should note down the name of the worker, or take picture, if possible, and directly inform the union at the union's office number +919863239260 or inform any familiar DDO, DGM or IED regarding the matter or can also file a complain against the worker at electricity counter during working hours.
The individual would be punished for the act according to law, Ranapratap added.
In its effort to provide uninterrupted power energy, the union has been, from August 1 to August 30, organising awareness campaigns regarding the benefits of clearing pending electric bills on time and legalising power connections.
Such awareness campaigns were successfully conducted at Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal and Bishnupur districts.
The union is also planning to initiate such campaigns at hills areas soon.
The union also distributed leaflets at such campaigns for better understanding of the public.
The State power supply has largely improved with the coming of Manipur State Power Distribution Company Ltd, Ranapratap added.
The irregularity can only be blamed on consumer who illegally expend State power energy without clearing any bills.
With the upcoming power projects like Tuivai Hydro Electric Project 317 MW, Churachandpur, Erang Hydro Electric Project 415 MW, Tamenglong, Khongnem Chakha Hydro Electric Project 233.5 MW, Senapati and Pabram Hydro Electric Project 295 MW, Tamenglong being accepted by the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO), the State would hopefully be able to provide power supply to industries which would thereby promote economic growth of the State.
