3-day Public Information Campaign begins in Ccpur

A three-day Public Information Campaign (PIC) on flagship programmes of the Central Government began today at Community Hall of B.Vengnuom village in Churachandpur District.
The Inaugural function was graced by Lok Sabha MP Thangso Baite and Vice Chairman of ADC Churachandpur Demmang Haokip as Chief Guest and President respectively, while Addl.
DC Churachandpur Maniram Sharma, IAS and Station Director of AIR, Imphal M.Kanankumar attended as guests of honour.
Addressing the inaugural function, MP Thangso Baite said that PIC is taking an important role in spreading awareness on Centre's flagship programmes to the people.
For achieving the goals of the flagship programmes, there is the need for awareness and this campaign programme is one of the tools to let people know about the programmes, he said.

The main highlight of the campaign is creation of awareness among the public on central sponsored schemes like National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), Universal Mid Day Meal, Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), Rural Drinking Water Supply, Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan, Rural Housing (Indira Awaj Yojna), Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), Pension Scheme, Rural Electrification, Rural Technology and PM Jan Dhan Yojna.
Theme based entertainment programmes in the form of song, dance and drama performed by Song and Drama Division, Imphal marked the inaugural function.
On Thursday, the second day of the campaign, resource persons would talk on National Health Mission, MGNREGS, Rural Housing, SSA and Mid Day Meal.
In the three-day PIC programme sponsored by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India and organised by PIB, Imphal in collaboration with AIR, DDK, Directorate of Field Publicity (DFP), Song & Drama Division (S&DD), Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity (DAVP), District Administration, Churachandpur, different departments, Government of Manipur, Government of India in Churachandpur district and District NYK, Churachandpur, 20 stalls displaying achievements of various flagship programmes in Churachandpur district are taking part.
As part of the campaign, one-day free medical camp will also be organised on the second day at the same venue and Directorate of Field Publicity (DFP) Govt.of India will organise field programmes in different villages within Churachandpur district.
Director CCDU Manipur L Swamikanta Singh while speaking as resource person during the Public Information Campaign (PIC) said implementation of Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan (NBA) is progressing well in Churachandpur district with so far 67.98 percent of total targeted 25579 BPL and APL households have availed the benefit of the Centrally sponsored flagship programme.
The Director said that so far 212921 sanitary latrines for the households under BPL and APL have been constructed under the scheme, while in the state, so far 80.88 percent of BPL and APL households have been covered by NBA against the targeted construction of 263254 sanitary latrines.
The main goal of Total Sanitation Campaign is to eradicate the practice of open defecation by 2017, stated Swamikanta while adding that central share of sanitary programme has been increased from Rs 2200 to Rs 3200 and the state share raised from Rs 1000 to Rs 1400.Beneficiaries have to contribute Rs 300 to Rs 900, he added.
'Churachandpur district has a total of 7709 beneficiaries/ pensioners under the National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) which came into effect from 15th August, 1995', conveyed DSWO Churachandpur A.Umarani while speaking during the programme.
