Peeved at the alleged failure of the Public Works Department (PWD) to repair the 1.5 km Lamphel Sanakeithel road which has been lying in a deplorable condition for the last many years, MLA of Thangmeiband Constituency, Khumukcham Joykishan has announced that he in collaboration with Thangmeiband Kendra Development Organization (TAKDO) would bear all expense that will be required in repair of the road stretch in case the concerned department fails to do so within December 15 .
In condemnation of the failure to repair the road stretch despite repeated request made to the concerned authorities, a public meeting was held in middle of the road stretch.
The meeting observed that owing to non-repair of the road, fatal road mishaps have took place along the stretch apart from emanating dust particles from it, posing serious health hazard to nearby residents and passerby.
After much deliberation, it unanimously resolved to entrust TAKDO with the responsibility to repair the road stretch if the government fails to do so within December 15.
Slogans such as 'PWD has ceased', 'Did the Congress Government want us to die' were chanted during the gathering.
Addressing the gathering, Konsam Surjit, general secretary of Thangmeiband United Youth Club pointed out that blacktopping along the 1.5 km Lamphel Sanakeithel has been not done for the last ten years, causing inconveniences to nearby residents and passerby.
He reiterated that different forms of agitation has been launched demanding to repair the road stretch at the earliest but the government is not showing keen interest in repairing the road stretch.
Recalling that Chief Minister O Ibobi; Works Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar along with officials of PWD had already inspected the road stretch and given assurance that the road would be repaired at the earliest possible, he said the decision to entrust TAKDO with the task to repair the road stretch was taken as the government has failed to do so for the last many years.
Talking to media persons in this regard, MLA Joykishan said that the 1.5 km Lamphel Sanakeithel road is one of the important roads in the city, while pointing out that Commissioner of Works Department and high ranking officials of the government are passing through the road every day.
Conceding that the demand put up by the residents is legitimate considering the dilapidated state of the road stretch, the MLA explained that he had decided to provide financial assistance meant for repairing the road taking into account sentiments of the residents of his constituency.
The matter has been discussed in the Assembly House during which Works Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar assured the House that the road stretch will be repaired at the earliest.
Even CM and Works Minister had inspected condition of the road on numerous occasions.
HVS Construction which has been entrusted with the responsibility to repair the road has been also asked to complete its construction work.
Despite such development, the road has been not repaired till date which is unfortunate, he pointed out.
Pledging that as a representative of the constituency, he would address any problem faced by the people of his constituency, the MLA announced that he along with TAKDO would bear expense that will be required in repair of the road stretch if the government fails to do so within December 15 .
