Imphal, April 02 2015 :
The Hmar Youth Association (HYA) General Headquarters has urged the Government of Mizoram to initiate peace talks with rebels groups in the State for bringing lasting peace and strengthening brotherhood among Zo descendants.
The HYA Ghqs in a statement signed by its general president Laldawnlien Varte and general secretary Francis Songneilien Songate expressed "distress and regret" on the ambush laid on the convoy of Mizoram legislators by suspected HPC-D militants near Zokhawthiang village on March 28.It asserted that the Hmar tribe should not be blamed as a whole for the acts perpetrated by one rebel group.
It also extended condolences to the families of the three policemen who died in the ambush and the six others who suffered injuries.
While disapproving bloodshed, HYA said there must be a reason behind the sudden attack on Government officials by the militants.
"The government must find out the reason behind the attack and therefore take immediate measure by bringing the rebels to the negotiating table for establishing lasting peace," the Hmar body said.
It also added that as long as bloodshed continues in a tit-for-tat manner, consequence will be bore by innocent civilian.
"Being a human being who experienced the pleasure of peace and tranquillity and a follower of Jesus who taught us to love one another, the youth association is ever ready to take step for establishment of peace and brotherhood among Zo descendants," the HYA said.
The youth organisation also regretted that some people were deliberately instigating communal feelings among Mizo tribes over the incident.
"The fight between rebels and Government for political cause should not be communalised," it said.
"While all Zo descendants are walking on the path of development, creating tension and enmity among different communities is unwanted," the HYA said, cautioning every person to be careful while making comments on social networking sites and in the media.
