Tension grips Khongman

Tension gripped Khongman Mangjil area in Imphal East district after a scuffle broke out between locals and employees of UNACCO today morning.
Local sources said that about 150 UNACCO employees came in four-wheeler and two-wheeler vehicles to collect their official documents at their old office at Khongman at around 8 am.
It may be mentioned that the private company has shifted their office at Porompat.
After reaching the locality, members of Oriental Club asked the UNACCO employees not to enter their old office complex as the situation was tense due to an old standoff.
A heated verbal altercation broke out between UNACCO employees and club members as the employees allegedly tried to go inside their office complex forcefully.
It is said that Thongju MLA Th Bishworjit, who happened to pass the area, also asked the UNACCO employees to leave the locality to avoid unwanted incidents.
Later, a public meeting was held after the incident at Oriental Club in the presence of Th Bishworjit.
The meeting decided to lodge a complaint against the Managing Director of UNACCO and his employees regarding the incident.
General Secretary of Oriental Club, G Phantomas said that Khongman locals would hold a meeting with UNACCO officials on April 4 to resolve the issue.
On the other hand, UNACCO employees also conducted a meeting at the community hall of Soibam Leikai.
UNACCO Manager PK Chandra said that they went to Khongman to simply collect their documents as their office has been shifted to Porompat.
Meanwhile, in a press conference held at Manipur Press Club, one Lisham Goroba of Khongman clarified that the accusation made by one of the senior managers of UNACCO that he held a gun when the scuffle broke out was totally baseless.
He further said that making such accusations in the media without having any valid proof could give serious consequences.
He further said that a defamation case would be lodged against the manager for tarnishing his image.
