Drug abusers pulled up

Volunteers of the Khumidok Sorok Mapal Village Anti Drug Committee rounded up 27 drugs abusers from their locality during an anti-drug drive today along with two youth who attacked the volunteers with an air pistol.
Secretary of the committee, Md Amu said that the incident happened today at around 11.30 am when volunteers carried out a drive against selling and abuse of drugs in their locality.
They rounded up around 25 youth who came out from suspected places.
All the persons rounded up are in the age group of 18 to 30 years.
As the volunteers went ahead with the drive, they came upon and asked two youth to halt.
But all of a sudden, one of the youth fired upon them with an air pistol.
Nonetheless, the volunteers somehow managed to overpowered and rounded up the duo.
The two have been identified as Thingbaijam Oken (29) s/o Th Sarat of Pungdongbam Mayai leikai and Irom Vivek (27) s/o Irom Jen of Yourabung Ward Number 2, and the air pistol belongs to Oken.
On questioning, Oken revealed that he is a former cadre of the proscribed PREPAK though he has no connection with any underground group now.
He also said that among the 25 others who were rounded by the volunteers, one identified as Paolalman Vaiphei is a Manipur police personnel posted at Kangpokpi police station.
During the drive, the committee volunteers seized five small packets of heroin Number 4, four syringes, two N-10 tablets, and 127 SP capsules.
