Imphal, April 02 2015 :
Naga Women's Union (NWU) has condoled the demise of the first woman Member of Parliament (MP) from Nagaland and one of the foremost Naga woman leaders, Rano Mese Shaiza who expired on April 1 .
NWU thanked God for what Rano Shaiza was and for her contributions in her lifetime, according to a statement.
Rano Shaiza was a good wife and mother and at the same time she was amongst the pioneering Naga women politicians, social activists, and educationists, the NWU said.
She was also a peacemaker who took part in brokering peace at the first Indo-Naga talk, a reformer who pleaded for the freedom of religion and advocated for peaceful solution to the Indo-Naga political problem.
For her steadfast belief in truth and work for the cause and welfare of the people she is likened to the Biblical Deborah, it said.
"She will always be remembered for her contributions and services towards our people and towards the cause of Nation building.
We will always cherish her contributions and imbibe her virtues.
Her legacy and position will remain an inspiration to all young and old and future generations," it said while conveying deepest condolences to the members of the bereaved family.
It also asked for peace and comfort for the family to the Almighty God.
