Water Supply Scheme inspected

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Kangpokpi, DK Thangboi today inspected the Augmentation of Water Supply Scheme located at Toribari, about 3 Kms from Kangpokpi police station with the local civil bodies to take stock of the water level.
To the amazement of DK Thangboi, most of the water cubicles at the site were found all dried up while the floor of some water cubicles were in deplorable states.
The Augmentation of Water Supply Scheme at Kangpokpi was constructed at a cost of Rs 221.95 lakh with a storage capacity of 0.433 ML by the Department of Development of North East Region, Government of India under NLCPR funding and was inaugurated in November 2010 .
DK Thangboi after speaking to the chowkidar and other PHED employees at the site, it was learnt that deforestation of the catchment forest area of the water supply and illegal tapping of water along the main line by unknown person(s) were the main the reasons for the scanty water supply.
Speaking to media persons, DK Thangboi said that immediate steps should be taken up in order to solve the water scarcity problem and tough actions will be initiated against the encroacher(s) .
In the meantime, Hechon Singson, president, Kanggui Youth Union urged the State Government and the authority concerned to take up immediate steps and ensure proper supply of potable water to the people.
