Cabinet takes decision on admission procedure for JNIMS PG courses

The procedure for selection of candidates and admission to the four Post-Graduate (PG) courses at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Imphal has been decided by State Cabinet in a meeting on Thursday.
The decision was taken following Medical Council of India (MCI)'s approval of the courses to be conducted by the State Government run institute.
The Cabinet meeting was held at the Chief Minister's Secretariat and chaired by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh.
After the meeting, Education, CAF&PD Minister Moirangthem Okendro informed that the four PG courses would be run by JNIMS Pathology, Micro-biology, Pharmacology and Bio-chemistry departments.
Each of these departments will have two seats each and all admission process will be completed by May 31 .
The four courses will be conducted in accordance with the Government of India and MCI accepted admission procedure.
Admission to the courses would be based on the norms followed by MCI and Government of India.
Out of the total eight seats, 50% will be selected from the Central pool, Government of India's nominees and the rest of the 50% will be selected from State Government's nominees.
The entrance test will be conducted by National Board of Education, New Delhi.
It may be recalled that JNIMS began functioning under State Government since December 18, 2007 with the Chief Minister as the Chairman and Health & Family Welfare Minister as Vice Chairman under JNIMS Society.
The institute had sought the approval of Government of India and MCI to conduct PG courses in eight departments including Pre-clinical and Para-clinical subjects.
MCI had approved the four courses in February.
The Education Minister informed that there will also be mandatory reservation for ST, SC and OBC candidates.
During the meeting, the Cabinet also decided to approve the recruitment of 15 instructors/trainers on contract basis for the Counter Insurgency and Anti Terrorist (CIAT) School, Jiribam.
The instructors/trainers with different ranks will be selected from ex-servicemen who had served in various ranks either in the State or the Central forces.
These trainers/instructors will give nine-week commando training to Manipur Police personnel.
Nineteen of them will be selected in the first round after the assessment of their performance by a State Government Committee of Officers and their cases will be forwarded to a Selection Committee.
From the 19, 15 will be finally selected by the Government, said Okendro.
