Writers Forum Imphal, Nagamapal Lamabam Leikai Imphal conferred the 5th Khundongbam Brojendro Ningshing Mana 2020 to Yumnam Rajendra.
The award, comprising of Rs 25,000, citation and shawl, was handed over during a ceremony held at Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy Imphal today.
Theatre critic Professor Nongmaithem Tombi graced the function as the chief guest while Writers Forum Imphal president Keisam Priyokumar attended as the functional president.
During the ceremony, Writers Forum Imphal released 107th Sahityagi Pao while Dr Longjam Sanjit talked about 'Tragic sense', a play written by Khundongbam Brojendro.

Speaking at the ceremony, Professor Tombi expressed gratitude to the family of the famous playwright late Khundongbam Broj endro for donating the award.
He maintained that Manipuri Shumang Leela inspired Khundongbam Brojendro to become a playwright and tried his hands on this field by introducing his famous play Ningamhoudraba .
The late playwright become popular after releasing his play, Bor interview 1977,which was reportedly performed 150 times and became a play which delivered a new taste different from other plays performed at Rupmahal theatre, he added.
Around 20 plays written by Khundongbam Brojendro were performed at the theatre including Echasa Epa Lamboirage 1980, Ei Mamani 1978, Haigatlang 1977, Emagi Mamou 1978 .
Some of his other famous plays are Mou Mari 1977, Nonglei Nungsit 1982, Ngamkhei Wathok 1985, Luhongba Mathel 1997, Refugee 2000, Professor Tombi recalled.
The Professor continued that around 15 of his popular plays have been transformed into books while other have been performed as teleplay or radio play and made even into films.
He said that late Khundongbam Brojendro was a pioneer who introduced new development, stories and a new taste in theatre, Leela or films which not only informed the people about social issues but also helped in entertaining them.
