The women wing of the All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has urged the State Government to pressure its the Maharashtra Government to arrest all of the culprits/ accused involved in the gang rape and murder of a minor student (whose parents hail from Yairipok Bamon Leikai, near Yairipok Bazar, Thoubal district) in Pune (Maharashtra).
Speaking to media persons at AMSU head quarters at DM College campus today, M Monalisa, women affairs secretary of AMSU said that from time to time, people from the North East region and the State, specially the students studying in different parts of mainland India, have been racially discriminated.
Such racial discrimination as well as crimes like rape and sexual assaults of students from the region still continue today, due to lack of timely action by the authorities concerned, she alleged, informing that yesterday, a class XII student, who was staying in a quarter along with her family at Khadki, Pune, was found brutally murdered (after being gang raped) near Khadki railway station.
She had remained missing after she went out to buy some things from a general store in the afternoon of January 11, Monalisa explained adding that after she failed to return home, her family members filed a complaint to the police station concerned.
After tracing the location of the victim's mobile phone, the Scooty on which she had gone to the store, was found near the railway line.
Yesterday morning, the lifeless body of the victim was found near Khadki railway station, Monalisa added.
She further conveyed that the father of the victim is a retired army personnel who hails from Yairipok Bamon Leikai, Thoubal district.
She then appealed the State Government to pressure the Maharashtra Government to arrest the involved persons at the earliest and deliver justice to the victim.
