16th KIWT 2020 kicks off

Kangpokpi, January 13 2020:
The 16th edition of Annual Kanggui Inter Ward Tournament 2020 kicked off today at Brig M Thomas Ground, Kangpokpi DHQs with 71 teams from sixteen wards participating in the category of men's football, veteran football, U-13 and men'sand women's volleyball under the aegis of Kangpokpi Youth Union (KYU).
Rev Y Haokip, vice chairman, Kangpokpi Town Committee graced the inaugural ceremony as chief guest while Lampao Misao, ex-Chairman, ADC Sadar Hills, Thangminchon Singson, ex-president KYU and NS Gangte, ex-general secretary, KYC as guest of honour and Haolet Khongsai, president, KYU as functional president.
A part from various local civil bodies' leaders including Kangpokpi Women Welfare Organization, all member of Kangpokpi Town Committee also attended the inaugural ceremony as special guests.
KYU president Haolet Khongsai lit the tournament torch and KTC vice chairman lit the cauldron amidst cheers and applauds after the 16th Kanggui Inter Ward Tournament Torch Relay participated by all ward captains after hoisting the tournament flag in the presence of other dignitaries and dedication of the tournament by Rev Thangboi David, member of KTC who also invoke thanksgiving and blessing prayer.
After inspection of players and declaration of the tournament by the chief guest and other dignitaries, the inaugural match between Ward No 13 and Ward No 8 was successfully kicked off amidst loud cheers from supporters of the teams.
Songpu hattrick (7', 18' and 32') and another three goals from Manggou (14' penalty), Vungminlen (12') and Kamginlen (20') helped Ward No 8 demolish Ward No 13 6-1 while Ward No 12 had an easy 2-0 win over Ward No 2 (B) in the second match.
Seiminlal and Thanggoulal Kipgen scored for Ward No 12 in the 7th and 59th minutes respectively.
Tomorrow, in the main men's football, Ward No 16 and Ward No 3 will play in the first match and Ward No 5 & 6 and Ward No 1 will play in the third match.
In the veteran football, Ward No 8 and Ward No 9 will play in the second match while Ward No 4 and Ward No 2 will play in the fourth match.
